Dr. Shrikant Jichkar-Founder Swamini Brahmaprakasananda-Chief Acharya Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati-Paramacharya

Vedanta is seriously pursued mainly in the vanaprastha and sannyasa Ashramas. There being very little adherence to a Vedic lifestyle in the present day, Vedanta is taught to one having a certain level of maturity gained through undergoing sufficient experiences in life, even though he has not adhered to the above mentioned Vedic life pattern.

The course

Vedanta ClassThe first 3 year full-time course at the gurukulam in Vedanta and Sanskrit started in June 2004 concluded on July 13,2007. The second full-time 3 year is underway.

Course Structure

The students are taught the upanishads and Bhagavad gita culminating in the Brahmasutras, through the Shankara-bhashya. Study of the above is supplemented with texts written by the traditional Acharyas as and when needed for clarity in understanding. Though the medium of instruction is English, an in-depth knowledge of Sanskrit Grammar, the ‘key’ to our timeless treasures – the Vedas is also imparted. Sanskrit is studied through the Ashtadhyayi of Panini.

A typical day in the life of a resident student begins early in the morning with puja, continues through meditation, 3 Vedanta classes, 1 Sanskrit class, Vedic chanting, puja in the evening and ends with Satsang late in the evening. The resident seekers are joined by students from the city, on special occasions.

Eligibility

The resident seekers come from around the world with varied and distinguished talents. After having led a purposeful life, they are admitted into the Gurukulam with a demonstrated desire and commitment for this knowledge. Normally, the minimum requirement for admission is graduation in any subject and some work experience. Exceptions, as always, only prove the rule.
